BookMarked: A Reading Wonderland

bookbed bookmarked header

Hello, Cheer Readers! Welcome to BookMarked, where I share all the wonders of collecting that ever-so-important companion of readers everywhere: the bookmark! Check out previous posts here.

Can you believe it, less than 24 hours to go and it’s Christmas day! (If you’re reading this instead of doing your last minute gift shopping, we just want to say thank you! (Although you should really get on with it. We were supposed to put this up yesterday but we went shopping for gifts instead. Sorry!)

Anyway, as the last BookMarked post for the year, we wanted to leave you with a quick reminder for the holidays and show you Christmas-themed bookmarks from different parts of the world. Do you know how to say Merry Christmas in different languages? Well, you’ll learn it here.

Oh, the quick reminder: READ!

The holidays is synonymous with spending quality time with your family, relatives, friends, colleagues, and everyone dear and special to you. That’s on top of the list! Many of us only happen to see our loved ones at this time of year. We want to take every opportunity to be with them, catching up for the lost times.

But amidst the reunion parties and get-togethers, booklovers will always have time to read — before bedtime, while in long queues at payment counters, while in transit in and out of our hometowns (bus, ferry, airplanes, what have you).

Since we wanted to make this Christmas holiday reading special for you, Willy Nieuwveld, Natalia Crespo (another bookmark collector) and I gathered together our Christmas-themed bookmarks to share with you. The holidays is indeed a good time to burrow under floppy pillows and warm blankets and enjoy a good read. You can also avoid busy streets and cold (and snowy for some) outdoors by staying home with your favorite novels. And if there are books best read during this season, there are also bookmarks to use as well.

These are some of Willy’s bookmarks from different countries: the USA, France, Greece, Germany, England, Portugal, Turkey, and Russia.

The next few bookmarks are from Dventer, Holland. It shows the Dickens Festijn. Two days every December, the locals relive the characters from the famous books of Charles Dickens – Oliver Twist, Scrooge, Marley and Mr. Pickwick, and others – to celebrate the season and Dickens’ literary genius. It’s so nerdy, we HAVE to have something like this here, don’t you agree?

And here’s a last-minute idea before you send out your Christmas gifts. Instead of having a name card to tag your gifts, have a Christmas-themed bookmark. It is unique and useful. You can have it produced or Do-It-Yourself, like these bookmarks from Willy.

Alright, whew! That was a lot of bookmarks in there. Maybe you want to start looking out for bookmarks with this theme so you have something to use during this season. We would love to giveaway some here. Maybe in Christmas 2016?! Stay tuned!

Happy holidays! ☁
