Have you ever read a book that made you think: “Thank the Lord I found this book!”? And its awesomeness leaves you speechless, and you cannot help but brag about it to almost every bookworm you know? I do! And it would be Emma Chase’s Tangled.
THE STORY
Drew Evans is a winner. Handsome and arrogant, he makes multimillion dollar business deals and seduces New York’s most beautiful women with just a smile. He has loyal friends and an indulgent family. So why has he been shuttered in his apartment for seven days, miserable and depressed?
He’ll tell you he has the flu.
But we all know that’s not really true.
Katherine Brooks is brilliant, beautiful and ambitious. She refuses to let anything – or anyone – derail her path to success. When Kate is hired as the new associate at Drew’s father’s investment banking firm, every aspect of the dashing playboy’s life is thrown into a tailspin. The professional competition she brings is unnerving, his attraction to her is distracting, his failure to entice her into his bed is exasperating.
Then, just when Drew is on the cusp of having everything he wants, his overblown confidence threatens to ruin it all. Will he be able untangle his feelings of lust and tenderness, frustration and fulfillment? Will he rise to the most important challenge of his life? / Read reviews: Goodreads
WHAT I LIKED
Based on the aforementioned blurb, you may think: “Meh, another cliché story about a playboy and the headstrong woman who changes him.” Okay, I’ll give you that. And they ended up with each other. But believe me when I say, there’s more to it than meets the eye. There’s a reason clichés are clichés, you know!
What amazed me with this book is that it’s written from the male lead’s point of view (POV). How awesome is that for a change? Other than Tangled, there are only a few romance books written in the guy’s voice. Most books are told from the female’s POV, right?
Emma Chase wrote it as if Drew is having a conversation with you. I had so much fun being able to enter Drew’s mind and read his thoughts. It made him sexier in my imagination. Rawr.
This book fascinates me because, through Drew, I learned how the average male’s mind works. And the way Drew delivers his lines, you could not help but laugh your butt off.
“Let me repeat that in case you missed it: ALL GUYS TALK TO THEIR FRIENDS ABOUT SEX. If a guy tells you he doesn’t? Dump him, because he’s lying to you.”
“Guys love heels. We associate them with all kinds of fantastic sexual positions. If you want a man to notice you, you cannot go wrong with a pair of shiny four-inch stilettos. I swear.”
“No man wants to fuck a skeleton—and nibbling crackers and water like a prisoner of war at dinner isn’t attractive. It just makes us think about what a cranky bitch you’re going to be later on because you’re starving. If a guy’s into you? A cheeseburger deluxe is not going to scare him away. And if he’s not? Ingesting all the greens on Peter Cottontail’s farm isn’t going to change that, trust me.”
Quite educational, huh? I bet you this will help a lot of women out there when it comes to relationships. Awareness of what makes your man happy could totally step up your relationship a notch. *wink wink*
Even though Drew uses very, VERY explicit language, I assure you, you cannot help but fall in love with him and, at the same time, wish you have a guy like him. He’s super swoon-worthy. I sometimes always wonder why in the hell-o is he fictional. *stomps feet in frustration*
tl;dr
There may be a bit of drama in the story, but rest assured, the humor, sexiness and romance of Tangled will conquer the whole story. And your feels, too.
Drew’s cockiness and wit will absolutely compel you to read this over and over again. Just like what happened to me.
Emma Chase’s way of writing almost makes you feel like you’re watching the book’s story unfold before your eyes. This is one of those books I wish would have a movie adaptation. The book has this huge effect on me, what more if it is translated to the big screen? Oh my fangirl feels would go through the roof. ☁
